SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Northern California is expected to remain locked in a cool and unsettled weather pattern through the Valentine’s Day weekend and into late February, with periodic rain near the coast and continued snow chances across the Sierra Nevada from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

Along the coast and Bay Area, including San Francisco, daytime highs are forecast to range from the upper 40s to low 50s, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 30s and low 40s. Several weak weather systems are expected to move through the region, bringing intervals of light to moderate rain. While no single storm appears particularly strong, the repeated nature of these systems could result in wet roadways and reduced visibility at times.

Inland valleys across northern California will experience similar conditions, though slightly cooler nighttime temperatures may allow for patchy frost during clearer periods between systems. Rainfall amounts are expected to vary, with localized heavier showers possible during brief bursts of stronger precipitation.

The Sierra Nevada will continue to see the most impactful weather. Snowfall is expected at higher elevations throughout the forecast period, with snow levels fluctuating depending on the strength of incoming systems. Travel through mountain passes may be difficult at times, especially overnight and during periods of heavier snowfall.

Winds are expected to remain mostly moderate, though gusty conditions could accompany passing fronts, particularly along the coast and in higher terrain.

Forecasters indicate that below-normal temperatures are likely to persist across much of northern California, with no sustained warming trend expected as February progresses.
