Eureka, CA – Residents along the North Coast should prepare for light rain Thursday before skies clear in time for a sunny weekend, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Forecasters said a 30 percent chance of showers is expected Thursday afternoon in Eureka, with highs near 62 degrees. A slight chance of rain will continue into Thursday night, with lows around 52. Winds will shift northwest at 5 to 9 mph in the evening.

By Friday, skies are forecast to gradually clear, bringing mostly sunny conditions with a high near 60. The weekend outlook calls for steady sunshine and mild temperatures, with highs around 61 both Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 40s to low 50s.

A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 5 p.m. Wednesday, warning of strong rip currents and dangerous surf along Humboldt and Del Norte County beaches. Officials urge swimmers and surfers to exercise caution.

Looking into next week, mostly sunny conditions are expected to continue into Monday and Tuesday, with highs reaching the lower 60s.

This mix of light rain and sunshine marks the beginning of fall’s transitional weather for coastal Northern California.
