SACRAMENTO, CA – The Central Valley woke up under a soft gray blanket of fog this Friday morning, blurring headlights and slowing commuters from Elk Grove to Woodland. Calm air and moisture trapped near the surface have created classic valley fog, a sure sign of the fall transition. By late morning, the haze will lift, revealing mild sunshine ahead of a cooler, unsettled weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, patchy fog and mist linger through 10 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies and a high near 72°F Friday. A light south wind builds by afternoon, drawing in higher clouds ahead of a weak Pacific front that will bring scattered showers late Friday night into Saturday.

Saturday looks cooler and cloudier, with highs in the mid-60s and a 60% chance of light rain mainly north of the city. Precipitation will stay on the lighter side, but drivers on I-5, Highway 99, and Route 50 should plan for slick roads through early afternoon. By Sunday, skies remain mostly cloudy with a few lingering showers before the system exits east into the Sierra foothills.

Monday and Tuesday return to calm, dry weather, with highs climbing back into the upper 60s to near 75°F under mostly sunny skies — perfect for outdoor prep ahead of Halloween week.

While this weekend’s system won’t bring heavy rain, it’s a gentle reminder that storm season is inching closer. Gardeners and homeowners should start clearing gutters, securing decorations, and watching for the region’s first stronger fronts likely to arrive in early November.
