Eureka, CA – The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a High Wind Watch for Del Norte, Humboldt, and portions of Mendocino counties from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday, as a strong weather system moves through Northern California.

Forecasters say south to southeast winds of 20–30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 55 to 60 mph, particularly over higher elevations, ridges, and coastal headlands. These winds may cause tree limbs to fall, loose objects to blow around, and localized power outages, especially in exposed and elevated areas.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, use caution when driving—particularly high-profile vehicles—and prepare for potential power interruptions. NWS meteorologists note that the strongest winds will occur late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning before gradually easing later in the day.

Travelers along U.S. Highway 101 and coastal routes should be alert for sudden gusts and debris on the road. Utility crews may be positioned for quick response in the event of outages.
