Eureka, CA – Residents in Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino counties should prepare for chilly overnight conditions as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka has issued a Frost Advisory in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. PST Sunday, November 23.
According to the NWS, temperatures may fall to around 34 degrees, leading to frost formation across interior valleys and low-lying areas. The advisory covers communities including Weaverville, Hayfork, Covelo, Laytonville, and Potter Valley, among others.
The agency cautions that frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, noting that unprotected plants may be killed if left uncovered. Residents are encouraged to take steps now to cover plants, bring potted flowers indoors, and ensure pets have adequate shelter.
Meteorologists also noted that overnight valley fog may limit frost formation in some spots, but cold air pooling is expected in sheltered inland valleys, particularly before sunrise.
More information and localized hazard maps are available through the National Weather Service Eureka office at wrh.noaa.gov/map/?wfo=eka.
