EUREKA, Calif. – A Frost Advisory is in effect for Southern Trinity County as temperatures are expected to dip to near freezing early Wednesday, threatening sensitive vegetation across rural communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, temperatures could fall as low as 33 degrees from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, with frost formation likely in valleys and low-lying areas. The advisory specifically includes Hayfork and Ruth, where still air and clear skies could enhance overnight cooling.

Gardeners and growers are urged to cover or bring in plants that could be damaged by frost. The NWS warns that unprotected outdoor vegetation may be killed if left uncovered, particularly in exposed fields and shaded yards.

Drivers should also use caution during the early morning commute, as patchy frost could form on untreated roads and bridges. The cold spell is expected to ease by late Wednesday morning as temperatures rebound under sunny skies.

Additional frost advisories are possible later this week if calm, clear conditions persist across inland Northern California.
