Sacramento, CA – The Central Valley wakes under a blanket of thick fog this morning as cool, damp air meets calm winds across Northern California. Visibility has dropped to near a quarter mile in some areas, creating hazardous travel along I-5, Highway 99, and local routes through midmorning.

The National Weather Service warns of dense fog lasting until around 10 a.m. Saturday, especially south of the city near Elk Grove and Galt. Commuters should slow down, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra time for travel as moisture lingers from Friday’s cool air mass.

Once the fog lifts, sunshine will break through with highs in the mid-50s and calm conditions. Sunday brings similar weather — mostly cloudy but mild, a pattern that holds through early next week. High pressure will dominate much of Northern California’s sky through mid-December, keeping conditions dry and steady for outdoor holiday decorating or travel.

Temperatures will gradually climb toward the upper 50s to near 60°F by Wednesday, with morning lows hovering in the lower 40s. Valley residents can expect patchy fog to return late each night where winds remain light and humidity high.
