Eureka, Calif. – Northern California residents are being urged to prepare for potential flooding as a strong atmospheric river brings heavy rain through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service in Eureka issued a Flood Watch for Mendocino, northwestern Mendocino Interior, southern Humboldt, and southwestern Humboldt counties, warning of widespread runoff and possible rock and landslides.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rainfall is expected from late Monday night through early Wednesday, producing persistent moderate to heavy downpours across coastal and inland regions. Creeks and streams may rise rapidly, with minor flooding possible in poor-drainage areas and flood-prone valleys. Excessive runoff could impact major routes such as U.S. Highway 101 and State Route 1, particularly near low-lying areas.

Officials urge residents to monitor forecasts, clear storm drains, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Those living near rivers and creeks should have an evacuation plan ready and remain alert for potential warnings.

Flood Watch conditions remain in effect until Wednesday morning, with additional rainfall expected into midweek.
