California – Rain drums steadily on rooftops this morning as low clouds press against the redwood-lined hills of the North Coast. Water pools along roadsides, wind pushes sheets of rain sideways, and the first hours of 2026 arrive with active hazards across Humboldt County.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through late Friday night, with south winds gusting up to 40 mph. A Coastal Flood Warning is also active today during peak high tides, while Flood Watches remain posted through the weekend as repeated rounds of rain move inland.

The strongest winds will impact exposed headlands, coastal highways, and higher terrain. Unsecured objects may blow around, and isolated power outages are possible. Drivers on US-101 should prepare for sudden gusts, ponding water, and reduced visibility, especially during heavier downpours.

Along the coast, high surf combined with elevated tides may cause minor flooding of low-lying areas near Humboldt Bay. Beach access roads, parking lots, and harbor areas could briefly flood during high tide cycles. Officials urge caution near jetties and coastal trails.

Rain continues today and tonight, with additional rounds expected Friday into the weekend. Rivers and streams will be closely monitored as runoff increases. While widespread river flooding is not guaranteed, smaller creeks and poor-drainage areas could rise quickly.

Temperatures stay mild, mainly in the 50s, but persistent rain and wind will make conditions feel raw at times. Travel plans this weekend should remain flexible as weather impacts stack up.

More alerts may be issued as storms continue. Traveling the North Coast or spotting high water near your area? Let us know what you’re seeing.
