SAN FRANCISCO – The Bay glows under a soft Halloween dawn, the air still and cool enough to see breath drift above city streets. Morning fog has thinned, revealing a tranquil start to what’s expected to be a bright, seasonably warm weekend across the Bay Area.
According to the National Weather Service in Monterey, skies will stay clear through Sunday with highs around 70°F inland and mid-60s along the coast. Light westerly breezes will keep conditions pleasant through the weekend, ideal for outdoor plans, trick-or-treat events, and early fall cleanup across San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.
Saturday brings more sunshine with calm winds and temperatures near 70°F, while Sunday trends slightly warmer, reaching the low 70s across much of the peninsula and East Bay. Those planning coastal drives along Highway 1 can expect excellent visibility and mild surf conditions.
A notable change begins to take shape early next week as Pacific moisture gathers offshore. Clouds will thicken Monday night, followed by a 30 to 40 percent chance of light rain by Wednesday — the Bay Area’s first hint of November’s wetter season. Rain amounts should stay light, but slick roads and reduced visibility could slow the midweek commute.
Residents should use the dry weekend to prepare gutters and clear debris ahead of the coming pattern shift. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, giving the Bay Area an extra hour to rest before the next workweek begins.
