EUREKA, Calif. – Dangerous winds are expected to sweep across Northern California’s coast beginning Tuesday afternoon, with gusts reaching 60 mph in Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino counties. The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a High Wind Watch effective through Wednesday morning, warning of hazardous travel and potential power outages.

According to the NWS Eureka office, sustained south winds of 25 to 35 mph will strengthen along windward ridges and coastal headlands. Drivers of high-profile vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 and State Route 1 should prepare for sudden gusts, while residents are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid parking under trees or near power lines.

Widespread power outages and downed trees are possible as the storm peaks Tuesday night. Utility crews may face difficult conditions restoring service due to debris and continued wind hazards.

Residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and alerts and to fasten loose objects before the winds intensify.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday morning, with conditions expected to ease by midday.
