Eureka, California – A wave of unseasonably hot weather is expected to push inland Northern California temperatures into the upper 80s to mid-90s from May 19 through May 23, bringing the highest heat of the season so far.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 day outlook shows a 33–40% probability of above-normal temperatures across much of California. Inland cities like Ukiah and Clearlake face a 50–60% chance of hitting 90°F or higher by midweek, with the peak likely Friday into Saturday.

By Wednesday, areas such as Big Bar, Trinity Center, and Weaverville could also see rising heat, with Thursday through Saturday showing 40–60% odds of crossing the 90°F mark. Ukiah leads the region with the highest daily probability—topping out at 60% on both Wednesday and Saturday.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals and pets. The heat wave could strain local power grids and increase wildfire risk in drier regions.

More updates will follow as conditions develop. Heat watches or advisories may be issued if confidence in triple-digit highs increases.
