Mendocino County, CA – Temperatures dipping to 34°F by 3 a.m. Friday could damage crops and backyard gardens across inland Mendocino County, with frost forming before sunrise and lasting into the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Frost Advisory is in effect for interior Mendocino locations including Redwood Valley, Willits, Covelo, and Boonville from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday. Coastal Del Norte and northern Humboldt areas, including Fieldbrook and Fort Dick, face a separate advisory from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. as temperatures fall to around 36°F.
The cold snap is expected to create localized frost on exposed surfaces, especially in low-lying valleys where temperatures can briefly dip below surrounding areas. Agricultural zones and rural properties face the highest risk, with sensitive vegetation vulnerable to damage or loss.
Residents are urged to cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and avoid early morning irrigation that could worsen frost formation. Gardeners should act before midnight to ensure protection is in place.
Conditions will improve shortly after sunrise, but additional advisories could be issued if overnight temperatures trend colder into the weekend.
