Eureka, CA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for Northern Trinity County from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday, with snowfall expected to impact travel conditions and mountain passes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Eureka, snow levels will start around 4,000 feet before dropping as low as 2,500-3,000 feet overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. Accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected above 3,500 feet, including Highway 3. Lower elevations, particularly high passes along Highways 36 and 299, may see a dusting of snow.
The NWS warns that travel could become hazardous due to accumulating snow and blowing winds, which may reduce visibility. Drivers should be prepared for potentially difficult road conditions, especially in higher elevations.
Officials advise residents and travelers to check road conditions before heading out, carry chains, and prepare for delays. The advisory is set to expire by late Thursday morning, but lingering snow and icy roads may continue to impact travel.
