Sacramento, CA – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of Northern California starting early Friday morning, raising wildfire risk across the Sacramento Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the warning covers areas from the northern Sacramento Valley to the southern Tehama County line below 1,000 feet. The alert begins at 5 a.m. Friday, September 26, and continues through 5 a.m. Saturday, September 27.
Forecasters warn of gusty north winds between 15 and 25 mph combined with daytime minimum humidity levels of just 10 to 15 percent. These conditions create a critical environment where even small sparks can grow rapidly into dangerous wildfires.
Officials say outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during the warning period. “The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity,” the National Weather Service stated.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including avoiding outdoor equipment use that could generate sparks, securing trailers to prevent chain drag, and preparing defensible space around properties. Fire crews remain on alert across the region as vegetation remains dry at the tail end of summer.
The Red Flag Warning highlights how Northern California continues to face peak wildfire risk during early fall, even before the arrival of seasonal storms.
