SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Overnight heat will linger across the northern Sacramento Valley and foothill communities early this week, with low temperatures in some cities holding in the 70s through Tuesday morning. The extended warmth overnight will limit recovery from hot daytime highs, increasing the risk for heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, Redding and Red Bluff will see the warmest lows, reaching 74–75 degrees Sunday and Monday nights. Chico and Auburn will also remain hot overnight with lows around 70–73 degrees before dropping later in the week. Even Sacramento and Stockton, typically cooler, will stay in the 60s through Tuesday before a gradual cool-down.

Officials urge residents to stay in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, especially during the first half of the week. Without AC, tips include keeping blinds closed during the day, using fans to circulate cooler nighttime air, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.

The NWS warns that the combination of hot days and warm nights can be dangerous for vulnerable populations. Overnight heat is expected to ease by Thursday, but additional advisories could be issued if cooling trends slow.
