Eureka, Calif. – Hazardous marine conditions are expected off the Northern California coast through the end of the week, with the National Weather Service warning of gale-force winds and dangerous seas near Cape Mendocino.
According to the Weather Service office in Eureka, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until Thursday afternoon, with northwest winds up to 25 knots and seas building to 8 feet. A stronger Gale Warning takes over from 3 to 11 p.m. Thursday, when gusts could reach 35 knots and seas approach 9 feet between Cape Mendocino and Point Arena. A second Small Craft Advisory will follow from late Thursday night through Saturday morning.
The strong winds will create steep, hazardous seas that could capsize small vessels or damage poorly secured boats. Mariners are urged to remain in port or seek shelter until conditions improve. The agency recommends avoiding unnecessary travel offshore and making sure vessels are properly secured.
Dangerous marine weather is expected to persist into the weekend, with conditions gradually easing Saturday afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if the winds remain elevated.
