Sacramento, CA — A line of isolated thunderstorms is expected to develop across Northern California today, with Shasta County facing the most significant risk from mid-afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the strongest storm activity is most likely between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday. The storms may bring brief heavy rainfall, lightning, gusty winds, and small hail, primarily in and around Redding and nearby areas.

Meteorologists caution that while the storms are isolated, they could intensify quickly. “Any thunderstorm that develops could become strong in a short amount of time,” the agency posted. The alert covers mainly Shasta County, though neighboring areas in Northern California may see brief impacts.

Drivers are advised to remain alert for sudden changes in visibility and slick roads during the evening commute. Residents are encouraged to head indoors at the first sound of thunder and to secure outdoor items that could be displaced by strong wind gusts.

Although spring storms are common in this region, today’s activity could bring higher-than-average hail potential. The weather service urges the public to monitor local updates and be prepared for rapid weather changes throughout the evening.
