Eureka, California –Damaging winds continue across Northern California, with High Wind Warnings in effect through Wednesday morning and additional High Wind Watches issued for late Wednesday night through Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka.

The warnings cover coastal and interior portions of Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties. Affected communities include Eureka, Arcata, Crescent City, Fortuna, Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg, Lakeport, Hoopa, Orleans, Garberville, Shelter Cove, and surrounding areas.

During the ongoing High Wind Warning, southeast to south winds of 30 to 45 mph are expected, with gusts ranging from 70 to 85 mph. The strongest winds are forecast across exposed ridges, coastal headlands, and windward slopes, particularly in southern Humboldt County where peak gusts may reach 85 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, these winds are capable of downing trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel may be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and recreational vehicles. Debris, including fallen branches, is likely on roadways.

A High Wind Watch has been issued for the same general region from late Wednesday night through Thursday evening, signaling the potential for another round of strong to damaging winds. While exact timing and intensity remain uncertain, gusts could again approach 70 to 85 mph in exposed locations.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, remain indoors during peak winds when possible, and avoid parking vehicles near trees. Those who must travel should use extreme caution and be prepared for sudden gusts and downed debris.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring forecast updates closely as this prolonged wind event continues to impact Northern California through Thursday.
