Sacramento, Calif. – Northern California is sweltering under triple-digit heat Monday, with some cities expected to see their hottest day of the week before cooler weather moves in. Redding and Chico are forecast to hit 105 degrees, while Sacramento tops out near 101, creating widespread moderate heat risk and pockets of major heat risk across the Sacramento Valley.
According to the National Weather Service Sacramento office, the cooling trend will begin Tuesday as onshore breezes strengthen, gradually dropping highs into the upper 80s by the weekend. While relief is on the way, forecasters warn that today’s heat remains dangerous, especially for those without adequate cooling or shade.
Cities including Marysville, Modesto, and Red Bluff will see highs between 99 and 105 Monday before temperatures begin a steady decline. The agency urges residents to stay hydrated, take breaks from outdoor activity, and avoid direct sunlight during the afternoon hours.
The heat risk is expected to fall sharply by Thursday, with highs in Sacramento around 90 and Redding near 92. Still, officials advise monitoring updated forecasts in case winds increase fire danger later in the week.
