SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Northern California is bracing for a dangerous stretch of triple-digit heat Friday into Saturday, with a heat advisory in effect across the Sacramento Valley, Shasta Lake area, and surrounding foothills. Highs are expected to peak between 95 and 106 degrees, creating widespread risks of heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the advisory begins at 11 a.m. Friday and continues through 11 p.m. Saturday. Overnight lows will offer little relief, holding in the mid-60s to 70s, which forecasters warn elevates the chance of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for those without access to cooling.

The advisory covers major cities including Sacramento, Chico, Stockton, Oroville, Fairfield, Red Bluff, and Modesto. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of fluids, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers and athletes are especially at risk and should limit strenuous activity to early mornings or evenings.

Cal/OSHA is reminding employers that shade and water breaks are mandatory during extreme heat, and cooling centers will be open in multiple counties through the weekend.

The heat is expected to ease slightly by Sunday, though above-average warmth will persist into next week. More advisories could be issued if the high-pressure system lingers over the region.
