SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Residents across the Sacramento area should brace for one of the hottest days of the summer on Sunday, with highs expected to reach 103°F before a gradual cooldown midweek. The extreme heat will dominate through Monday, keeping much of the region under heightened heat risk for outdoor activity and travel.

According to the National Weather Service, light winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to climb rapidly each day, topping 102°F Saturday and 100°F Monday. The combination of high heat and minimal evening relief—overnight lows will only dip into the mid-60s—could stress those without adequate cooling, especially in urban areas like downtown Sacramento, Elk Grove, and Roseville.

Outdoor workers, vulnerable populations, and those without air conditioning are urged to limit exposure during peak afternoon hours. Hydration, light clothing, and shaded breaks remain essential. Pets should be kept indoors during the hottest part of the day, and never left in parked vehicles.

By Tuesday, highs should ease to around 95°F, with a further drop into the upper 80s by late week. While the heat wave breaks slightly, dry and sunny conditions will persist, meaning wildfire danger remains elevated in the Sacramento Valley.
