SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Triple-digit heat will grip the Sacramento region this week, pushing highs above 100 degrees by Thursday and keeping conditions dangerously hot through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s high will reach 91, followed by 98 on Wednesday before topping out near 101 on Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will remain near or above 100 through the end of the workweek, with overnight lows only dipping into the mid-60s, offering little relief.

The heat will stretch across the Central Valley, affecting travel and outdoor activity from Elk Grove north to Yuba City. Light winds from the southwest are expected but won’t provide much cooling. The California Independent System Operator is urging residents to conserve power in the evenings to reduce strain on the grid, while health officials recommend limiting time outdoors, staying hydrated, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

Cooling centers in Sacramento County are expected to open if highs continue to push past 100 degrees. Commuters should also prepare for hot pavement and potential vehicle overheating during peak afternoon hours.

The heat wave is expected to ease slightly by the weekend, though highs will remain in the upper 90s into early next week.
