Sacramento, CA – Northern California residents are being urged to prepare for unusually hot weather midweek as temperatures climb into the upper 90s across the Sacramento Valley, Delta, and surrounding foothills.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Moderate HeatRisk is in effect Tuesday and Wednesday, September 16–17, 2025. Daytime highs are forecast to reach 95–98°F in Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Chico, and Modesto before a cooling trend begins late in the week.
Meteorologists caution that this level of heat primarily affects people sensitive to high temperatures, including those without reliable cooling or adequate hydration. Officials recommend staying indoors during peak heat, drinking plenty of fluids, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
Forecast models show Sacramento peaking at 97°F Wednesday, while Redding may reach 98°F. Stockton, Modesto, and Vacaville are expected to hit 96–97°F during the same period. By Thursday, temperatures should fall closer to seasonal averages, dropping into the mid-to-upper 80s by the weekend.
The NWS advises residents to monitor updates throughout the week as conditions evolve.
