Redding, Calif. – A dangerous heat wave will grip much of Northern California from Friday morning through Sunday night, with temperatures climbing as high as 110°F in parts of the Sacramento Valley and inland Mendocino County.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Sacramento and Eureka, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday for counties including Shasta, Trinity, Lake, and Mendocino. The advisory also covers major cities such as Redding, Chico, Ukiah, Clearlake, and Weaverville, with heat indices projected to reach up to 101°F.
Residents in the Northern and Central Sacramento Valley, Burney Basin, and Lake County should expect widespread moderate to major heat risk, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. Overnight lows will offer little relief, hovering between 68 and 80°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.
Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of fluids, and check on vulnerable populations. Use air conditioning when available, and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.
Temperatures are expected to moderate slightly by early next week, but more heat advisories could be issued depending on evolving conditions.
