Ukiah, California – A dangerous heat wave will grip much of inland Northern California starting Friday, with highs soaring to 105°F in valleys from Ukiah to Weaverville, and heat advisories in effect for Mendocino, Lake, and Trinity counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the heat advisory runs from 11 a.m. Friday through 11 p.m. Sunday for most of the area, with Mendocino’s advisory ending Saturday night. Daytime highs between 100°F and 105°F will combine with muggy conditions, raising the risk of heat illnesses—especially for those without access to air conditioning.

Residents in Lakeport, Clearlake, Hopland, Laytonville, and Hayfork should expect sweltering afternoons and uncomfortably warm nights, with some higher terrain neighborhoods staying above 70°F overnight. Emergency officials urge everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and check in on neighbors, seniors, and pets.

Travelers along Highways 101, 20, and 299 may also encounter heat-related vehicle issues. Power companies recommend charging devices and preparing for potential outages as demand spikes. This is the most significant heat event for the region so far this summer, similar to last July’s prolonged hot spell.

The heat advisories are set to expire Sunday night for Trinity and Lake counties, and Saturday night for Mendocino. Additional alerts may be issued if the hot, dry pattern continues.
