San Francisco, California – Strong winds and dry air are elevating the fire danger across Northern California this weekend, with the highest threat expected through Monday in parts of the Bay Area and Central Coast.

According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, gusts of 25 to 35 mph—reaching 45 mph in canyons and gaps—combined with relative humidity dipping to 20–35%, are creating conditions ripe for grass fires. The heightened risk spans higher terrain in the North Bay, East Bay, and southern sections of Monterey and San Benito counties.

Residents are urged to avoid activities that could spark flames, including using open flames outdoors, dragging trailer chains, or operating machinery in dry grass. The fire risk is classified as minor, but the combination of dry fuels and wind makes even small ignitions dangerous.

Emergency officials advise using extreme caution and staying alert for fire weather updates. Any outdoor burning or careless behavior could rapidly escalate into fast-moving fires.

The fire weather concern remains in effect through Monday, and more advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
