WEAVERVILLE, Calif. – A sharp overnight chill will grip Trinity County through early Monday, with temperatures dipping near 40 degrees and a Frost Advisory in effect until 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Eureka.

The advisory covers communities including Weaverville, Hayfork, Big Bar, Ruth, and Junction City, where light frost could form on lawns, crops, and vehicles before sunrise. According to the NWS, sensitive plants and early harvest vegetation could suffer damage or be killed if left uncovered overnight.

Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover garden beds with cloth or plastic sheeting to retain warmth. Drivers should allow extra time for early-morning frost on windshields, especially in shaded valleys and rural roadways like Highway 299 and State Route 3.

The chill is expected to ease after sunrise Monday, but another cold night is possible midweek as dry air lingers across inland Northern California.
