Alturas, CA – A freeze watch has been issued across parts of Northern California, with temperatures expected to dip below freezing late Friday night into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, residents in Modoc County and Northeast Siskiyou County should prepare for sub-freezing conditions, with overnight lows forecast between 26 and 32 degrees. Additional freezing temperatures may also occur Saturday night.

The advisory includes communities such as Alturas, Tulelake, Dorris, Canby, and Lookout in California, as well as areas near the Oregon border. Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive plants, and harm unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents are urged to take precautionary measures, including covering tender vegetation and ensuring irrigation or water lines are insulated. Farmers and ranchers in these agricultural regions could face the greatest impact, as early-season freezes often damage late-harvest crops and reduce pasture quality.

The freeze watch is in effect from late Friday night, October 3, through Saturday morning, October 4. A second night of freezing temperatures is also possible, raising concerns for prolonged agricultural damage.

Local officials recommend residents check on vulnerable neighbors, pets, and livestock to ensure proper shelter and warmth.
