Ukiah, CA – A fast-moving storm is bringing heavy rain to Mendocino and Lake Counties early this morning, prompting a Flood Watch for interior areas through 10 a.m. Thursday. Urban flooding and rockslides remain the primary concerns as intense rainfall continues to move across the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka, moderate to heavy rain is expected through the morning, with 2 to 3 inches likely across both counties. The heaviest rain rates are forecast around Cobb, while the greatest flood risk centers on urban areas including Ukiah and communities around Clear Lake.
Forecasters say the majority of the rainfall is likely to fall within a six-hour window, increasing the threat of minor to moderate flooding on roads, in low-lying urban zones, and in areas with poor drainage. NWS officials also warn of an elevated risk of rocks and landslides along road corridors, especially in hilly terrain.
Drivers should use caution, as water-covered roads, mud, and debris are possible through the morning commute. Those living near flood-prone areas are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and be prepared to take action should conditions worsen.
The Flood Watch will remain in effect until 10 a.m., though lingering showers may continue after that time.
