Eureka, California – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect across parts of Northern California until 11 p.m. Thursday, as scattered dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds raise the risk of wildfire ignition and rapid spread.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, the greatest threat is centered in the interior Klamath Mountains, including Trinity County, Hoopa, and Northern Humboldt. Thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon and evening, with a renewed threat Friday for areas stretching into interior Mendocino, Lake, and southern Humboldt counties. A Fire Weather Watch remains active for Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Gusty, erratic outflow winds could reach 50 mph during thunderstorm activity, further complicating containment if lightning sparks wildfires. Lightning strikes over dry terrain remain the primary concern, with elevated fire behavior possible even from isolated cells.
Residents in fire-prone areas should avoid any outdoor burning, secure defensible space around homes, and have evacuation plans ready. Fire crews may face rapid ignition and spread conditions, especially in steep or forested terrain.
Conditions remain volatile through Friday night, and additional warnings may be issued if storm activity intensifies or expands southward.
