Northern California Coastal Winds to Increase Through Saturday, April 12

Eureka, CA – Coastal areas of Northern California are expected to experience breezy winds through Saturday, April 12, with peak gusts predicted to intensify during afternoon hours and remain strong through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will be strongest in the afternoon, with gusts up to 35 mph in areas like Point Arena and Fort Bragg. Areas further inland, such as Crescent City and Eureka, will also experience significant gusts, ranging between 22 and 30 mph, particularly during the later hours today and on Saturday afternoon.

The table included by the weather service shows wind gust forecasts for the following hours:

  • Friday, April 11: Peak gusts in Fort Bragg and Mendocino will reach 34 mph between 5-8 pm, with winds in other regions like Eureka and Crescent City peaking around 30 mph during similar times.
  • Saturday, April 12: Gusts will remain high across the region, with Fort Bragg and Point Arena expected to experience gusts of 32-35 mph throughout the afternoon.

These winds could affect travel and outdoor activities along the coast, particularly for maritime conditions and drivers on coastal roads.

The National Weather Service advises locals to secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for brief periods of stronger winds that may impact visibility and driving conditions. The weather service’s forecast animation also shows the wind gusts evolving over time, emphasizing the strongest winds occurring during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
