San Francisco, CA – The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area has issued Gale and Storm Warnings for the Northern California coastal waters, with dangerous marine conditions expected from Wednesday morning through early Thursday.
According to the NWS, southeast winds of 25 to 35 knots with gusts up to 55 knots and seas as high as 14 feet are forecast for the region from Point Arena to Point Reyes, extending up to 60 nautical miles offshore.
A Gale Warning will remain in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Storm Warning from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 3 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters caution that storm-force winds and steep seas could capsize or severely damage vessels while significantly reducing visibility.
The National Weather Service advises mariners to remain in port, secure their vessels, and avoid open waters during this period. Conditions are expected to improve gradually Thursday morning as the system moves inland.
The affected area includes coastal waters north of the Golden Gate, a region often impacted by strong Pacific storms during late fall.
