Sacramento, CA – A weekend of heavy rain and dense fog has descended on Northern California, with travel disruptions likely to increase. The National Weather Service has warned of widespread rainfall today and tomorrow, posing risks for drivers, especially on highways like I-80 and Highway 50.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and dense fog will dominate the forecast through Sunday morning. Rainfall will be heaviest this afternoon, with up to a quarter inch expected. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Patchy fog is forecast for tonight, with lingering showers.

On Sunday, conditions may briefly improve, but rain is set to intensify again Sunday night into Monday. A major storm system arriving Monday evening could bring heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms. Winds will strengthen Monday night, making travel hazardous in certain areas.

By Christmas Eve, the storm is expected to peak, with widespread rainfall and gusty winds impacting the region. Travelers should monitor weather updates closely and plan for potential delays, especially those heading into mountainous regions where snow levels will drop to 3,000 feet by midweek.

Christmas Day will bring some respite, with partly sunny skies expected and high temperatures near 54 degrees. However, intermittent showers may return later in the week.

Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor decorations and furniture ahead of high winds. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov or follow local traffic alerts.
