Little Rock, Ark. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will blanket much of Arkansas through Wednesday night, bringing the risk of flash flooding and dangerous travel conditions across northern and central parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, multiple rounds of showers and storms will move in beginning Sunday night and intensify through midweek. The heaviest totals, reaching 2 to 4 inches, are expected from Fayetteville through Harrison and into Jonesboro, with central Arkansas including Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Russellville likely to see 1 to 2 inches.

Locally heavy downpours, cloud-to-ground lightning, and isolated stronger storms could produce brief gusty winds or small hail. With soils already saturated in parts of the state, forecasters warn that flash flooding could develop quickly, especially in urban areas and along low-lying roads. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roadways and monitor changing conditions closely.

Communities in southern Arkansas, from El Dorado to Texarkana, will see lower rainfall totals but could still experience localized flooding where storms linger. The Arkansas Department of Transportation advises travelers to plan for delays and watch for standing water along highways.

The wet pattern is expected to persist into Wednesday night, with additional advisories possible if rainfall intensifies.
