Flagstaff, Ariz. – Overnight flooding has forced closures and warnings across remote areas of Coconino County, where Havasu Creek continues to swell early Friday. Trails, swimming holes, and low-water crossings near Supai remain hazardous until at least 6 a.m. MST.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a river gauge on Cataract Creek below Heather Wash recorded a three-foot rise in just one hour due to earlier thunderstorms. While no additional rainfall is expected, runoff from 0.5 to 1 inch of rain is already causing dangerous water levels in Havasu Creek and surrounding washes.

Authorities warn that Little Navajo Falls, Mooney Falls, Beaver Falls, and popular camping areas along Havasu Creek remain at risk of flooding. Visitors are urged to stay away from creek banks and canyon trails overnight, as unstable terrain can collapse with little warning.

This advisory also covers portions of the Colorado River between river miles 157 and 158, with swift water expected in nearby canyons. Officials emphasize that anyone camping or hiking near washes should move to higher ground immediately.

The flood advisory is scheduled to expire at 6 a.m. MST, though officials caution additional warnings could be issued if conditions worsen.
