Flagstaff, Ariz. – Clear skies Monday will give way to unsettled weather across northern Arizona as thunderstorm chances increase midweek, with Flagstaff likely to see storms as early as Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Tuesday after 11 a.m., with highs near 90 degrees. Storm chances rise to 40 percent Wednesday and continue through Saturday night, with the highest likelihood of rain and thunderstorms Friday into Saturday, when chances reach 50 to 70 percent.

The midweek storms could impact travel on Interstates 40 and 17, especially during the afternoon commute hours when isolated downpours may reduce visibility and cause ponding on roads. Residents are urged to monitor changing skies and avoid driving through flooded low-water crossings.

Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 80s to near 90 through Thursday before dipping into the mid-80s over the weekend as clouds and rain move in. Overnight lows will hover in the upper 50s, keeping nights mild but muggy.

The National Weather Service advises that additional updates and advisories may be issued as storm activity intensifies later this week.
