FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Heavy rain is expected to pound northwest Arizona on Friday, raising the risk of flash flooding from the Grand Canyon to Page, including vulnerable burn scar areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with thunderstorms capable of producing dangerous runoff and debris flows.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, storms will be especially hazardous near the Dragon Bravo and White Sage burn scars, where the ground’s ability to absorb water is severely reduced. Flood-prone areas such as creeks, washes, streams, and slot canyons could see rapid water rises.
Residents and visitors in Jacob Lake, Tuba City, Supai, Grand Canyon Village, and surrounding communities are urged to avoid low-lying areas and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Those in hiking and recreation areas should plan for sudden weather changes and move to higher ground if storms approach.
Officials warn the flooding threat could persist until storms clear Friday night, with additional watches possible if moisture lingers into the weekend.
