Flagstaff, Ariz. – Flash flooding remains a serious concern across northern Arizona Tuesday as storms continue to drench Grand Canyon Country, the Kaibab Plateau, and the Marble and Glen Canyons. Dangerous runoff is most likely in slot canyons and over burn scars left behind by the Dragon Bravo and White Sage wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Flood Watch stays in effect until this evening. Thunderstorms are expected to redevelop through the afternoon and evening, with heavy bursts of rain capable of sending water rushing through dry washes and side canyons.
Communities including Page, Lees Ferry, Jacob Lake, and Grand Canyon Village could experience rapidly rising water. Park officials caution visitors and hikers to avoid narrow canyons, low-water crossings, and drainages where swift currents may become deadly with little warning.
Those planning river trips between Glen Canyon Dam and the western edge of Grand Canyon National Park are urged to prepare for sudden surges from side canyons. Officials advise checking in at visitor centers, carrying weather alerts, and avoiding non-essential travel near flood-prone areas.
The Flood Watch remains in place through Tuesday night, and additional warnings may be issued as storms continue.
