Flagstaff, AZ – Residents across northern Arizona should prepare for showers and thunderstorms later today, with the strongest chances expected this evening into Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.
Forecasters report precipitation chances ranging from 20% to 35% this afternoon, climbing to between 40% and 47% tonight in areas including Flagstaff, Prescott, Williams, and Sedona. Kingman and Payson could also see storms develop, with higher coverage after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service, a passing disturbance is fueling the unsettled weather pattern, which will remain in place for the first half of the week. The system may bring periods of heavy rain, lightning, and localized flooding in low-lying or burn scar areas. Drivers on Interstates 40 and 17 should use caution, as wet roads and reduced visibility are likely during peak travel hours.
The highest storm chances tonight include 46% in Flagstaff, 45% in Williams, and 44% in Payson. Additional showers are possible through midweek as the disturbance lingers over the region.
Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts, especially those planning outdoor activities in higher elevations. Thunderstorms in the area are capable of producing strong winds and lightning strikes.
