Huntsville, AL – A fast-moving weather system is expected to bring severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated hail across northern Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee on Sunday, with risks continuing into Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms will begin developing Sunday afternoon, with an 80 to 100 percent chance of rain and thunder by evening. The region is under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) severe weather outlook, with damaging winds being the primary concern. Wind gusts between 20 to 30 mph may occur even outside of thunderstorms, potentially disrupting outdoor activities and unsecured objects.
The affected area spans all of northern Alabama, including Huntsville, Decatur, and Florence, as well as portions of southern Middle Tennessee, including Fayetteville and Pulaski. Clusters of storms could strengthen as they track in from the northwest late Sunday, posing localized risks of hail and even an isolated tornado.
Residents are urged to secure loose items such as patio furniture, trash bins, and trampolines. Authorities also recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts and identifying nearby sturdy shelters.
This weather pattern follows an unseasonably warm Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. Cooler, drier conditions are expected to return Monday.
