Huntsville, AL – Drivers across northern Alabama and southern Tennessee are facing reduced visibility this morning as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville issued a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. CDT Saturday.
According to the NWS, visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions. The advisory includes Madison, Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb counties in Alabama, as well as Franklin, Lincoln, and Moore counties in Tennessee. Cities impacted include Huntsville, Scottsboro, Guntersville, Fort Payne, Winchester, and Lynchburg.
Forecasters urge motorists to exercise caution during the morning commute. Drivers are advised to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra following distance while traveling through fog-prone areas. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by mid-morning as the fog lifts.
Dense fog can be especially dangerous along highways, rural routes, and valleys where visibility can change quickly. Residents are encouraged to check road conditions before leaving and allow for extra travel time.
This advisory comes during a busy travel weekend, with early drivers most affected. The NWS will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if necessary.
