Binghamton, NY – Light rain and snow showers will move across Northeastern Pennsylvania late tonight, bringing the possibility of minor snowfall and brief freezing drizzle before conditions improve for the morning commute. The National Weather Service in Binghamton says the system will move through overnight and taper off around daybreak Wednesday.

According to the weather service, higher elevations in the Wyoming Valley and the Poconos may see up to one inch of snow, with most lower elevations receiving only a light coating or none at all. As precipitation comes to an end, a short window of freezing drizzle is possible, which may lead to a few slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Temperatures across the region will drop into the 20s and 30s, with colder pockets in the central Southern Tier of New York and elevated terrain across NEPA. Locations including Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, Tunkhannock, Montrose, Honesdale, Hazleton, Towanda, and the Pocono Plateau may experience the greatest travel impacts.

Forecasters emphasize that while no ice accumulation is expected, even a thin glaze from freezing drizzle can lead to slippery spots early Wednesday. Drivers heading out for the morning commute should use caution, allow extra stopping distance, and watch for black ice.

The light wintry mix will exit the area by mid-morning as skies gradually begin to clear. Temperatures will rise above freezing by late morning, helping road conditions improve across the region.

More updates from the National Weather Service Binghamton office are expected as the overnight system moves through and forecasters track the next round of late-week weather.
