Albany, NY – Snow and freezing rain are creating hazardous travel conditions across northeastern New York today, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, mixed precipitation is expected throughout the day, with snow transitioning to sleet and freezing rain by the afternoon. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice are likely, making roads treacherous for drivers. Wind gusts up to 22 mph could further impact visibility.
Residents should plan for delays and exercise caution on major routes, including I-87 and I-90. Road conditions may worsen during the evening commute, particularly in Albany, Rensselaer, and surrounding counties.
Friday will bring a brief break in precipitation, but another storm system is expected Saturday night, bringing more snow to the region.
Drivers are urged to check weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel. Those heading out should allow extra time and be prepared for slippery conditions.
