Shorewood, IL – A flood watch is in effect for portions of Illinois and northwest Indiana until 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, with flash flooding possible due to excessive rainfall. The affected areas include Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, McHenry, Will, and many other counties in Illinois, as well as Benton, Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter in Indiana.
According to the National Weather Service, the flood watch begins at 6 p.m. CDT this evening and continues through late tonight. Underpasses may become flooded, and area creeks and streams are already elevated, increasing the risk of additional flooding. Extensive street flooding is also possible.
Another round of torrential rain-producing thunderstorms is expected tonight, which may cause flash flooding. Far northern Illinois, which experienced widespread flash flooding over the weekend, is particularly at risk. Heavy rainfall tonight is likely to cause rapid water rises and the potential for renewed significant flash flooding.
