Wisconsin — Headlights fade quickly into gray this morning as patchy fog settles across central and northeast Wisconsin. Damp pavement and temperatures hovering near freezing create slick spots on untreated roads, especially before mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, fog remains possible early, with surface temperatures in the lower 30s increasing the risk of slippery travel. Conditions improve later, but the quiet stretch will not last long.
Attention shifts to Sunday as a winter system targets northeast Wisconsin. Snow develops during the day and intensifies by evening. Several inches of accumulation are possible around Green Bay, with steady snowfall reducing visibility to one to three miles at times.
Wind adds another layer of trouble. Gusts between 20 and 30 mph may cause blowing snow, especially on open stretches of Highway 41 and rural roads. Travel could become slow and unpredictable during peak holiday return hours. Plan extra time if you must be on the road.
By Monday, colder air surges in behind the system. Light snow may linger early, but the bigger concern becomes the cold. Daytime highs struggle into the 20s, and wind chills turn biting.
Looking ahead to New Year’s week and the start of 2026, forecasters expect a prolonged cold snap. Wind chill values near zero to as low as 15 below zero are possible around New Year’s time. Exposed skin will feel the cold quickly.
This pattern reinforces a true winter mindset for the final days of December. Wet roads can refreeze fast after sunset, creating black ice hazards. Keep winter gear in your vehicle and limit unnecessary travel during snow bursts.
More advisories may be issued as snowfall details sharpen. Traveling Sunday or early next week? Let us know what conditions you’re seeing where you live.
