Wisconsin — Light snow drifts across quiet streets this morning, dusting sidewalks and softening the edges of parked cars across northeast Wisconsin. It looks calm, but winter conditions are lining up quickly, and travel impacts could escalate by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, light snow this morning south of Highway 29 may create slick spots during the commute. Another round of light snow develops later today into the evening. Accumulations stay modest, but repeated bursts increase the risk of slippery roads, especially during peak travel times.

Green Bay sits near the edge of these snow bands, but even brief snowfall can reduce traction. Bridges, ramps, and untreated side streets may turn slick fast. Plan extra time if driving later today, particularly along I-41 and city arterials.

The bigger concern arrives soon after. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from late Thursday night through Saturday morning. Arctic air pours in behind departing snow, sending temperatures well below zero. Daytime highs on Friday and Saturday may stay below zero across much of northeast Wisconsin.

Wind chills will be the real danger. Values could plunge 30 to 40 degrees below zero, especially Friday morning and early Saturday. At those levels, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Limit outdoor time, dress in layers, and keep pets indoors.

Skies clear briefly Friday night, but the cold remains locked in through the weekend. Any melting during daylight hours today or Thursday can refreeze hard after sunset, raising the risk of flash freezing.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook keeps Wisconsin below normal into late January, even as storm chances increase across the central U.S. Winter stays active.
