Green Bay, Wisconsin – Smoke hangs in the morning air across northeast Wisconsin, softening the sunrise and reducing visibility as another active weather day unfolds. According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, patchy wildfire smoke will linger through the morning before temperatures climb into the mid-80s. Heat index values could reach 88 degrees, while southwest winds increase to 15 mph with gusts approaching 30 mph. A statewide Air Quality Advisory remains in effect through Monday, with PM2.5 levels ranging from Unhealthy (Red) to Very Unhealthy (Purple), especially across northeast Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urges everyone to limit prolonged outdoor activity, particularly children, older adults, pregnant women and people with heart or lung conditions. If smoke causes coughing, eye irritation or shortness of breath, move indoors and use filtered air if possible.
Meteorologists are now tracking a second concern. Scattered showers may develop late this morning, but the strongest storms are expected from late afternoon into the evening. The Storm Prediction Center places much of northeast Wisconsin in a Level 3 of 5 severe weather risk, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, torrential rain and an isolated tornado all possible. Travel conditions on Interstate 41, U.S. 141, and surrounding highways could deteriorate quickly if storms intensify.
Plan outdoor activities early in the day and keep multiple ways to receive weather warnings this afternoon. Secure loose outdoor items before storms develop, and be prepared to move indoors quickly if thunder is heard.
Behind the cold front, conditions improve by Wednesday, bringing sunshine, lower humidity and highs in the upper 70s. Looking farther ahead, temperatures may trend above normal again later next week, signaling another stretch of midsummer warmth.
