GREEN BAY, Wis. – Record warmth and strong southerly winds are pushing fire danger higher across north-central and northeast Wisconsin through Sunday, with the National Weather Service warning of “increased fire weather potential” as temperatures soar into the low 90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, gusty south to southwest winds will combine with unseasonably dry air Saturday afternoon and again Sunday, creating risky conditions for grass and brush fires. Afternoon highs will challenge early October records from Wausau to Door County.

Sunday night brings a shift as a weak cold front sparks a few scattered thunderstorms, though forecasters do not expect severe weather. Behind the front, temperatures will tumble—setting the stage for possible frost over northern Wisconsin by midweek.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and secure lightweight items that could blow away in gusty conditions.

Conditions calm by Tuesday, with cooler, drier air returning to the region. The Weather Service says another round of showers is possible late next week.
