Green Bay, WI – Northeast Wisconsin is bracing for an unusually hot and windy weekend, with record-breaking temperatures and increased fire danger expected through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service Green Bay, highs will reach the mid- to upper-80s across much of the region today and Saturday, October 4. Cities including Appleton, Green Bay, Wausau, and Wisconsin Rapids are forecast to challenge or exceed daily heat records dating back to the early 1900s. Minimum overnight temperatures could also break records for warmest lows.
Along with the heat, forecasters warn of gusty winds reaching 30–40 mph, creating conditions ripe for wildfires. Rain chances remain very low, with only a slight (20%) chance for isolated thunderstorms late Friday in far northeast Wisconsin.
The weather service cautions residents to avoid outdoor burning, properly extinguish campfires and grills, and check with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for local burn restrictions. “The warmest conditions of the season will be accompanied by strong winds, leading to increasing fire danger,” officials noted in Friday’s forecast update.
The hot, dry pattern will continue through the weekend before cooler temperatures return early next week.
